Rosy Cheeks

Getting older is a wonderful thing. #not In May of this year, I was diagnosed with rosacea. It has been a learning curve of finding out what works with my skin and the best methods to get it under control. Let me give you a little bit of a backstory with how this came to be!

Bad flare up

Around February, I had a HORRIBLE breakout on my right cheek. It was red, swollen, and sore. So I had some Tretonoin cream that I put on multiple times a day. It would go away for a little bit, but never completely go away. Then a week or two later it would flare up again! During this time I would continue to use my normal beauty products, and try so hard to cover it up without it looking worse.

After using zinc oxide
God cleared an appointment for me at the dermatologist's office, she listened to my symptoms, and right away knew I had rosacea. She gave me some samples of a facewash, moisturizer, and called in a prescription for Clindamycin. I started the Clindamycin on June 1, and woke up to the most horrible red face and breakouts! It hurt to wash my face, and I hated to look in the mirror. I continued to use it, but I was researching for alternative ways to treat this. I read where zinc oxide is good for rosacea, so I went to the baby care aisle of Wal-Mart and got myself a tube. Within 24 hours, there was a noticeable difference. It was less red, and the breakouts were dried up.

It was still pretty red, and I was still dealing with new breakouts every day. I called my dermatologist back and she prescribed me Doxycycline to take for a month. Within a week I noticed a huge difference. It was amazing! I didn't want to have to rely on low dose antibiotics, so I kept researching.

Just a week ago
My mom had to go into GNC one day and was talking to a woman who also had rosacea. My mom told me that I had to go in and see her, so that's what I ended up doing. This woman, (whose name also happens to be Mandy!) was like an angel sent from heaven! She was like a walking encyclopedia! She gave me recommendations, and told me what she did. I had 4 days left of my doxy, so I quit taking those, and decided to give her methods one month. Best.Decision.Ever. My skin looks amazing! My redness is much less noticeable, and I only get a few breakouts. Some days I don't wake up with any! I tend to break out a particular time of the month if you get what I'm saying. ;)

Because this post is already really long, I am going to do a followup post of my new skincare routine, because it has changed dramatically! If you have any questions, make sure to let me know!

P.S. Sorry for the selfies again!

Cooking for a Crowd: Spaghetti Sauce

My family likes to save money when we have parties. One way to do so is to cook everything ourselves, instead of hiring a caterer. Today, I wanted to give you a recipe for spaghetti sauce that will feed a crowd. This recipe is best made in an 18 quart roast pan. We bought most of our sauces and tomato paste at Costco. Ingredients: 2 onions 3 cans diced tomatoes 2 #10 cans of tomato sauce 1 #10 can on spaghetti sauce 1 heaping tsp of garlic minced 2 (28 oz) cans of crushed tomatoes 4 (6 oz) cans of tomato paste 1 tsp sugar Onion and garlic salt, italian seasoning, parsley, oregano to taste 1 pound of each: ground meat, hot and sweet sausage Look at the deliciousness!  In a skillet brown your meat and sausage in a little oil. Once browned place off to the side. Combine your onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, and crushed tomatoes. *Sweat your onions down first, then add the garlic. Then your tomatoes.* Open your tomato sauces and spaghetti sauces (we li

YouTube-a-palooza

*Warning: this will be a long post, and picture heavy!*  :) Strictly based on the title alone I should have caught your attention! Sunday was the Alex Goot concert. It was at bar in Pittsburgh, and there were about 5 acts to the show!  You definitely got your money's worth! I went with my cousin, Allie (you can find her blog here! ) and it was just a fun girls night! The show was in a bar which used to be an old church, so it was very pretty inside. We got there around 6,  parked, and only had to stand in line for 10 minutes before we got to go inside. When we went in, we got our tickets scanned and  BAM , there was Landon Austin and Luke Conard at their merchandise table. So, because I somehow gained oodles of confidence*, Allie and I went over and I said "Hi Landon!"  He said "hi" back and asked me my name. I had a card for him so I handed it to him and he asked if he should open it now or later. I said that it was up to him. We moved on to Luke Conar
