North East Wine Fest Day 1

I wanted to share my weekend at WineFest with you! North East, PA has a WineFest every year. (This is their 37th!) It is an absolutely beautiful, quaint town, and I could totally see myself living in a town like this among vineyards. (Just please don't let me experience their winters!) I went with my aunt and uncle, who have a much better lay of the land than I do, so we took off Friday for a weekend of fun!

*I want to preface this by saying that I like sweet wine. So all of my recommendations of wine will be sweet. However, if you like dry wine everyone that gave us our tastings at all these wineries were so knowledgeable and would be more than happy to assist you in finding you your perfect wine.

We were in North East by 12:30, and hit our first winery. Courtyard Winery is so cute, and their wine is even better! Everyone in my group purchased the Mamma Mia Sangria. Chilled on a hot summer day, this wine will be fantastic with or without fruit! They even give you a sangria recipe on the bottle that you can make at home!

Next we went to Presque Isle Winery, and tried some of their wine. It was good, but we were at a disadvantage just coming from tasting the great wine at Courtyard Winery.

Our next stop was SouthShore Winery. Can I just say how insanely beautiful this winery is? Their tasting room and wine cellar is absolutely beautiful, stone everywhere. They have a cafe on their property, and if we didn't have plans of an early dinner that night, we would have grabbed a bite there.

We then traveled to Burch Farms Winery. They are a winery and a country market all wrapped into one. They had a beautiful display of baked goods, as well as a large selection of produce. The drive to Burch Farms is wonderful. You can hear trains, the rustling of the grapes, and as you get closer, you can see the apple orchards.

We also stopped at Penn Shore Winery. They have a great entryway! You enter under a grape arbor, and can smell the concord grapes as you enter. I tried one, and there is nothing like that first burst of fresh grape juice in your mouth! I highly recommend the Concord! Plus, it is such a great price too!

After we went through our wineries, we stopped at Gibson Park in North East. They had craft vendors set up, as well as some of those wineries sampling wines, and food trucks. After about an hour, we made our way over to Freeport beach to check it out, and listened to the waves crashing and the seagulls calling overhead for a few minutes.
Colony Pub dinner

Dinner that night was at the Colony Pub. It was their all you can eat fish, and let me tell you it was absolutely delicious! I got the beer battered scrod, with a loaded baked potato. It also came with a salad. I would definitely go back to that restaurant for their fish! So good!!

After all those wine samples, and delicious dinner we headed back to our hotel to check in, and get settled in for the night.

So that was day 1, come back for day 2!

Cooking for a Crowd: Spaghetti Sauce

My family likes to save money when we have parties. One way to do so is to cook everything ourselves, instead of hiring a caterer. Today, I wanted to give you a recipe for spaghetti sauce that will feed a crowd. This recipe is best made in an 18 quart roast pan. We bought most of our sauces and tomato paste at Costco. Ingredients: 2 onions 3 cans diced tomatoes 2 #10 cans of tomato sauce 1 #10 can on spaghetti sauce 1 heaping tsp of garlic minced 2 (28 oz) cans of crushed tomatoes 4 (6 oz) cans of tomato paste 1 tsp sugar Onion and garlic salt, italian seasoning, parsley, oregano to taste 1 pound of each: ground meat, hot and sweet sausage Look at the deliciousness!  In a skillet brown your meat and sausage in a little oil. Once browned place off to the side. Combine your onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, and crushed tomatoes. *Sweat your onions down first, then add the garlic. Then your tomatoes.* Open your tomato sauces and spaghetti sauces (w...

YouTube-a-palooza

*Warning: this will be a long post, and picture heavy!*  :) Strictly based on the title alone I should have caught your attention! Sunday was the Alex Goot concert. It was at bar in Pittsburgh, and there were about 5 acts to the show!  You definitely got your money's worth! I went with my cousin, Allie (you can find her blog here! ) and it was just a fun girls night! The show was in a bar which used to be an old church, so it was very pretty inside. We got there around 6,  parked, and only had to stand in line for 10 minutes before we got to go inside. When we went in, we got our tickets scanned and  BAM , there was Landon Austin and Luke Conard at their merchandise table. So, because I somehow gained oodles of confidence*, Allie and I went over and I said "Hi Landon!"  He said "hi" back and asked me my name. I had a card for him so I handed it to him and he asked if he should open it now or later. I said that it was up to him. We moved on to Luke Conar...
