What I Got for Christmas

I always get a pretty good mix of practical and fun gifts for Christmas. I am the type of person that typically doesn't hate any gifts people buy for me. I had some "oh, I've always wanted one of these" moments, and that is usually the reaction gift givers are looking for.

First up, practical gifts! The first practical gift I received was a 2 quart crock pot. I have a gigantic 7 quart one, but most recipes call for a smaller size. I was able to use this already for New Year's to keep rice warm, and it worked perfectly! Next up was a Snackeez. Listen, I know that I am 28 years old. I have an obsession with travel mugs. I am telling you, this thing is genius. I can put a drink and a snack in one package. I've already tested this, and I love it! Trust me, if you don't have one, you are going to want one.

Next, big gifts! I got a few bigger gifts this year. From my parent's I got an iHome. My old alarm clock worked well, but with this one I can charge my phone and wake up to the music I have on there as well. I love that I don't have to keep turning my alarm off and on throughout the week. I just press the power button and it resets for the next day! The big gift I got from my aunt and uncle was an Isaac Mizrahi ceramic watch. It is a light pink, and neutral enough that I can wear it with almost anything.

Sentimental gifts are next, and are ones I expected to get. Every year, my Bubba gets me a nutcracker. This year she got me two mini nutcrackers from Jim Shore. My aunt always gets me a Snowbabies figurine, and I loved the one she got me this year! She got me one with Rudolph and Clarice. So cute!

I received other items too, but these were some of the big ones! What did you get for Christmas? I'd love to read about it! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Cooking for a Crowd: Spaghetti Sauce

My family likes to save money when we have parties. One way to do so is to cook everything ourselves, instead of hiring a caterer. Today, I wanted to give you a recipe for spaghetti sauce that will feed a crowd. This recipe is best made in an 18 quart roast pan. We bought most of our sauces and tomato paste at Costco. Ingredients: 2 onions 3 cans diced tomatoes 2 #10 cans of tomato sauce 1 #10 can on spaghetti sauce 1 heaping tsp of garlic minced 2 (28 oz) cans of crushed tomatoes 4 (6 oz) cans of tomato paste 1 tsp sugar Onion and garlic salt, italian seasoning, parsley, oregano to taste 1 pound of each: ground meat, hot and sweet sausage Look at the deliciousness!  In a skillet brown your meat and sausage in a little oil. Once browned place off to the side. Combine your onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, and crushed tomatoes. *Sweat your onions down first, then add the garlic. Then your tomatoes.* Open your tomato sauces and spaghetti sauces (w...

Christmas/New Year's Recap

First, I just want to say that I have absolutely no pictures from Christmas. I'm terrible, I know. In my defense, I was sick all through Christmas and just wasn't feeling "it." I do however, have pictures of some of the gifts I received and New Year's. Christmas Eve dinner was hosted by my parents and I. We had lasagna, wedding soup, salad, bread, and Italian butter. I made a homemade alfredo sauce to go along with the lasagna. I also made the Italian butter, and attempted to make my homemade French bread. This year, the bread did not turn out. For dessert, I made white chocolate raspberry shooters. They were SO good! I will do a recipe on those when I make them again! After everything was cleaned up, we honestly just relaxed. I would have liked to have gone to Christmas Eve service at our church, but I was coughing, clearing my throat every 5 minutes, and blowing my nose every 10. I was a hot mess. My grandparents came back out to our house after church and w...
