Whiskey Pretzels Recipe

These little buggers are addicting! I had never heard of these until I went to Columbus with my Aunt and Uncle. She made some for snacks, and I could have very easily ate the whole bag. My aunt gave me the recipe and they could not be easier! Beware, you could eat the entire batch if you don't have any willpower!

There are two variations of this recipe, so I am going to post both. I made version 2, but you make what suits you! My comments will be in italics.

Whiskey Pretzels

Version 1

2 pkgs pretzel rods
1 stick margarine (Butter is ok too!)
3 Tbls whiskey (I used Crown Royal!)
1 rounded Tbls brown sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Heat over to 250 degrees. Lay pretzels in a single layer on cookie sheets. Melt butter, and stir in remaining ingredients. Mix well. Pour over pretzels. Roll pretzels to coat evenly. Bake 20 minutes, turning pretzels after 10 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container.

Whiskey Pretzels

Version 2

16 ounces pretzel twists (I used larger windowpane preztels)
1/2 cup butter
3 Tbls whiskey (I used Crown Royal)
2 Tbls brown sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Add butter, whiskey, brown sugar, garlic, and cayenne to saucepan and cook over low heat until melted. Spread mixture on a baking sheet and pour butter mixture over pretzels. (I dumped my pretzels into a big bowl and poured the butter mixture over and carefully stirred them to coat them evenly. I also put a layer of parchment paper on my cookie sheet.) Bake 10 minutes. Stir mixture (I added a little more brown sugar here!) and bake 10 more minutes. Allow to cool, and enjoy!

I also don't think it matters exactly what type of pretzel you use. I've had both the rods, and windowpane, and they were equally as good. I think that by adding the extra brown sugar, it gives just an added sweetness. Also, add more or less cayenne to your liking.

These would be a great snack for a sporting event, picnic, or just to have around when you get the munchies!

Have you ever had these before? What version would you try? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Cooking for a Crowd: Spaghetti Sauce

My family likes to save money when we have parties. One way to do so is to cook everything ourselves, instead of hiring a caterer. Today, I wanted to give you a recipe for spaghetti sauce that will feed a crowd. This recipe is best made in an 18 quart roast pan. We bought most of our sauces and tomato paste at Costco. Ingredients: 2 onions 3 cans diced tomatoes 2 #10 cans of tomato sauce 1 #10 can on spaghetti sauce 1 heaping tsp of garlic minced 2 (28 oz) cans of crushed tomatoes 4 (6 oz) cans of tomato paste 1 tsp sugar Onion and garlic salt, italian seasoning, parsley, oregano to taste 1 pound of each: ground meat, hot and sweet sausage Look at the deliciousness!  In a skillet brown your meat and sausage in a little oil. Once browned place off to the side. Combine your onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, and crushed tomatoes. *Sweat your onions down first, then add the garlic. Then your tomatoes.* Open your tomato sauces and spaghetti sauces (w...

Christmas/New Year's Recap

First, I just want to say that I have absolutely no pictures from Christmas. I'm terrible, I know. In my defense, I was sick all through Christmas and just wasn't feeling "it." I do however, have pictures of some of the gifts I received and New Year's. Christmas Eve dinner was hosted by my parents and I. We had lasagna, wedding soup, salad, bread, and Italian butter. I made a homemade alfredo sauce to go along with the lasagna. I also made the Italian butter, and attempted to make my homemade French bread. This year, the bread did not turn out. For dessert, I made white chocolate raspberry shooters. They were SO good! I will do a recipe on those when I make them again! After everything was cleaned up, we honestly just relaxed. I would have liked to have gone to Christmas Eve service at our church, but I was coughing, clearing my throat every 5 minutes, and blowing my nose every 10. I was a hot mess. My grandparents came back out to our house after church and w...
